Assembly of States Parties: CILRAP-CMN side event

On the occasion of the 13th session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the CMN ICJ Toolkits Project will participate in a three-part side event, convened by the Centre for International Law Research and Policy (CILRAP) and sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Norway, Denmark, Georgia, Germany and the European Union.

The second component of the event, “Complementarity in Practice: Mexico and Georgia” forms part of the CMN ICJ Toolkit Project, in support of the Investigation and Fact Finding Toolkit. It will address challenges faced by national investigators and fact-finders to effectively document and investigate core international crimes and serious human rights violations, by bringing together practitioners from national prosecution services, the ICC, NGOs and the European Union. The speakers are:

Mr. Givi Baghdavadze (Head of International Relations Division, Office of the Chief Prosecutor, Ministry of Justice of Georgia)

Dr. Emilie Hunter (Deputy Director, CMN)

Ms. Elizabeth Evenson (Senior Counsel, International Justice Program, Human Rights Watch)

Mr. Emeric Rogier (Head of the Situation Analysis Section, Office of the Prosecutor, International Criminal Court)

Ms. Cristina Mezdrea (Second Secretary, Legal Section, EU Delegation to the UN)

It will be preceded by two book launches by the Torkel Opsahl Academic EPublisher (TOAEP), the publishing arm of CILRAP, on the Historical Origins of International Criminal Law and the Proposed Crimes Against Humanity Convention, with a range of eminent academics and practitioners. It will be followed by a brief update on the ICC Legal Tools Project.
